Title: What can we do to make houses more earthquake resistant?
Post by: Geezer on 15/01/2010 05:58:32
Can a repeat of the tragic events in Haiti be prevented or at least diminished when the Haitians eventually rebuild, or will they be forced to rebuild without incorporating earthquake protection measures because of the increased cost? Can scientists with knowledge in this field help by sharing information?

Hi,  I think one of the best ways they can help buildings survive is to make them almost 'flexible' so they lean the opposite the earthquake pushing them so they stay  upright, but if they dont have enough money to do this to all the houses and buildings they should do it to all the big main buildings so if this does happen again they can use them as a shelter.

interlocking puzzle bricks can be used.ordinary mortar brick walls are useless on sideways thrust.sandwiching further can also help.

or bricks with holes which have thin rodes rods inserted can lend additional sideways strength.

interlocking bricks cost the same but the stupid people in charge don't think of these things.

All that need be done is to imitate Tibetan building methods. They are simple, earthquake resistant and do not cost very much. They allow the structures to move with the shaking.

As you are obviously remarkably talented, I'm a bit surprised you even waste your time posting on a forum like this.
