Title: Dutch Ofc of Environmental Planning & IPCC in cahoots - or both just inept?
Post by: litespeed on 06/02/2010 15:27:46
Here we go again. Drip, Drip, Drip.

"The Netherlands has asked the UN climate change panel to explain an inaccurate claim in a landmark 2007 report that more than half the country was below sea level, the Dutch government said Friday.

"According to the Dutch authorities, only 26 percent of the country is below sea level, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will be asked to account for its figures, environment ministry spokesman Trimo Vallaart told AFP....

"IPCC experts calculated that 55 percent of the Netherlands was below sea level by adding the area below sea level -- 26 percent -- to the area threatened by river flooding -- 29 percent -- Vallaart said.

"They should have been clearer," Vallaart said, adding that the Dutch office for environmental planning, an IPCC partner, had exact figures.

Correcting the error had been "on the agenda several times" but had never actually happened, Vallaart said.

The spokesman said he regretted the fact that proper procedure was not followed and said it should not be left to politicians to check the IPCC's numbers.

The Dutch environment ministry will order a review of the report to see if it contains any more errors, Vallaart said."

This really only needs one thread. Would you like to delete this thread or your post in the other one?

A report was not entirely clear about the fact that they were talking about threats from river floods as well as from sea floods.
Big deal!
It's not that the 2 groups are in cahoots or incompetent; they are both correct. It's just that people made the wrong assumption about what the figures referred to.
So the answer to the biased question that forms the title of this thread is;
"Probably no on both counts".

Madidus_Scientia - You wrote, sarcastically, "OMG THIS PROVES GLOBAL WARMING ISN'T HAPPENING."

According to Climate God Phil Jones it has not been happening since 1995. He also is  adamant there is no consensus on the matter. All this needs to be taken with a grain of jail house salt, of course. Jones seems to have come by his recent Karma via a very close call with actual prison time.

Chalk it all up to "A Polar Bear Too Far."  The GW crowd is now subject of late night comedy. There is no appeal from this condemnation. Just ask George Bush!

Happy TRAILS to you... and you and you and you!

Again, why refer to a person as a "climate god"? Especially one who you suggest in another thread that we shouldn't trust.

And these are the presentations we are expected to include in Trillion Dollar CO2 legislation?  We 'the people' made the wrong assumption? You have categegorically excluded IPCC reports from consideration by voters because we are too stupid to understand what they actually wrote?

No. Thats not the case. If the people who write the reports can not pass Freshman Writing 101 they need to be fired forthwith. What a bunch of semi-literate hacks.

It is suspicious, Ben. Especially as he started a whole thread about the guy

"Can we trust East Anglia's Jones on anyting?"

This action is hypocritical - note I said "action," not "person."

Oh, and he also neglect to answer the pure science of observations presented in that thread which show the average global temperature of the whole world has warmed since 1995.

Wrong, as I have said here (http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=28772.msg300755#msg300755)

Are you trying to spread this nonsense over as many threads as possible in the hope that you won't be refuted in one of them?

And you say the IPCC is discredited for this mistake with data? In the end, the data still supports their conclusion, and at least they admit to their mistake. However your own credibility is forever damaged by these antics.
