Title: Are young adults in Scandinavia sexually dissatisfied?
Post by: Benny2016 on 30/11/2016 06:02:16
The German sexologist Jakob Pastötter said in an youtube-interview that he strongly believes that the sexual education for minors in schools in Scandinavian countries leads to sexually dissatisfied young adults in these countries.

Does anybody know of any studies that show if young adults in Scandinavian countries are really more sexually dissatisfied than young adults from other countries?

Does anybody know of any studies that show the long-term effects of sexual education for minors in schools in Scandinavian countries?

Thank you very much in advance.

Have a nice day ;-)

I am unaware of any such studies, but I sincerely doubt that there would be a significantly negative correlation between sexual education and sexual satisfaction. If anything, I would hypothesize the opposite trend (but I am no social scientist, so I will have to let someone else test that one...)

There is a segment in of the US population that believes in minimal sex ed. They have different reasons, but I think that a lot of it stems from the idea that talking about sex will somehow make teenagers even more interested in it, and more likely to engage in premarital sex, while not talking about sex will somehow prevent it.

However, with rampant sexuality shown and discussed in popular culture, and unfettered access to pornography (of all kinds) online, I don't see how not having sex ed in school could possibly reduce exposure. I would imagine that those young adults whose only exposure to sexuality is through pornography would probably have the lowest sexual satisfaction (talk about unfair expectations!)

In the meatime I learned that Jakob Pastötter never knew of any studies that showed or show what he said. He just heard this opinion/impression  from someone/some people. So from my point of view chances are very high the whole thing is not true. But it would be necessary to look for or to do emprical studies to be sure about the truth in this issue.

Sex is a natural instinct. Even if you were not taught about sex, you can do sex, since it is easy to do. Once you turn an instinct into a learned procedure, you can loose the spontaneity of the natural instinct, and become more robotic.

Say you had a person who had a unique style for playing basketball. This style came naturally to them and was developed in their backyard as they played. The child goes out for the basketball team, where the coach tries to change him into a clone of everyone else; standardized skill set. The game could get boring, since the new kids can't rely on his spontaneity and still satisfy the needs of the coach.

An interesting experiment would be to learn about the mechanics of walking. Any child can instinctively walk with a smooth stride. This is done unconsciously. Robots who are taught, detail by detail for walking, still look stiff. Stiff will get boring. If you begin wth a platform of natural walking, this is easier to extrapolate and still be fun.

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who don't like sex, and those who are dissatisfied with it. Like any other aspect of human endeavor, including basketball, those those who don't do it, don't think much about it, and those who do it are continually trying to improve their performance, so they must be dissatisfied.
