I strongly suspect that someone will have tried eating it already but as it's not widely known as 'food' I suspect that it didn't taste very good and might even resulted in an upset stomach.  When it comes to food, I think pretty much everything possible will have been tried, at some time or another, over the thousands of years we've been around.

Thanks LeeE. My premise was specifically to see if a vegetarian would eat a carnivorous plant ...I'm setting aside whether it's safe to eat or not and just posing what i think is an interesting dilemma

Not being a 'veggie', I can't answer your query. But I would suspect that a veggie wouldn't eat it for the same reasons as I wouldn't.

First, I don't much like what it feeds on; flys, mozzies and the like. Second, I'd be afraid it just might bite back. It could end up a question of who eats who! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AImduoilHJk&NR=1&feature=fvwp)
