Some people say that washing your hair twice with small amount of shampoo is better than washing it once with a lot. Why is this?
Mod Edit - Welcome to the forum! I've formatted the subject as a question - please do this to help keep the forum tidy and easy to navigate, Thanks!

I've always washed my hair twice. Shampoo doesn't lather as well the first time which, to me, indicates that the grease, dirt & diverse fauna are still hanging around there somewhere.

It has been said by trichologists (people who study 3 colour hair while on a monocycle) that the practice of shampooing twice was invented by the industry to sell more of their product.
Beavers are a different kettle of fish (or beavers), spending the day in none too clean water and scrambling around on the banks renders their hair liable to visitations by all manner of flora & fauna. Though why there should be margarine on river banks I don't know.

Don - you've got very silly recently. Well done! [;D]

Why thank you Doctor Beaver, thank you very much. I do try you know, in fact people comment that I can be 'very trying'.

Come back Beaver, I was only kidding!!!

I think there is a case for washing your hair twice with small amounts of shampoo. I know that my hair feels different if I wash it twice [O8)].
-
When I was very young my mother washed my hair with an egg - it made it very shiny. She did this because, left to my own devices, I would use Daz. I am now bald. [8)]

What about the bacon, sausage and beans, did they go in your hair too? With breakfast and Daz on your bonce it's hardly surprising you're now a slap-head!!!

Thank you Don_1, I somehow knew you'd understand. [;)]

There's a difference between dirty hair and greasy hair. If your hair is greasy then it's likely that you're cleaning it too much and removing oils that should be there. As a consequence your hair follicles will over-produce oils to compensate, to try to maintain the correct balance. If your hair is dirty, which means that external dust or oils have been deposited upon your hair, then you should just use enough shampoo to remove it. Unless you're suffering from an illness that messes up your hair follicles, your hair 'system' will regulate itself, regardless of age or degree of baldness.

I've noticed this too, in that the 2nd wash is always more lathery than the first. These days I only wash my hair every day with water, and perhaps twice a week with shampoo, and it's always in good condition. Perhaps this is my perfect balance?
