Dear Bubbleologists,

Apart from being a container for some sheep gas...

....Are there any bona fide uses for bubbles ?.....I know we can all have fun with them...but .....does industry use bubbles at all for a specific purpose ? (apart from the production of bubble mixture !)

Maybe they aid in cleansing.. Like perhaps thats why they call "scrubbing bubbles" scrubbing bubbles...LOL.. Seriously I would think since most soaps bubble to someextent that it must serve a purpose in either cleaning or activating the cleaner and aiding in its delivery of clean goodness,, like making the surface slippery..so germs will wash away easier...Maybe???? LOL Unqualified guess!

Humpback Whales use bubbles as nets to help round up some tucker.
Look for 'bubble net'

Humpback Whales use bubbles as nets to help round up some tucker.

THANK YOU JnA....yes yes....I have seen this too !...they swim in circles and produce a circle of bubbles which herds 'lunch ' into a lunch eating location !!

When these ‘bubbles’ (and there are many millions of them in an active ultrasonic tank) collapse,
they collapse with enormous energy. When sufficient energy is built up in the ‘bubble’ or cavitation,
the cavitation collapses violently.

I think some building blocks such as "Celon" or "Aircrete" use bubbles in the making, not sure how though.
Not such an industry but physics, the Bubble Chamber.

Bubbles also help you if you get dumped in the surf.. swim in the same direction as the bubbles.

The bubbles dont assist in the manufacture of the building blocks but are put there or purpose at the manufacturing stage.
The concrete and clincker/ash is mixed and air is passed through the mix creating a bubble matrix instead of a solid one. The mix is then cast to set and as it does the air bubbles get trapped inside. This makes the finished product whole lot lighter but still very strong. Similar to a loaf of bread but in bread its the yeast that causes CO2 bubbles which get trapped.
Polystyrene foam and cavity insulation foam is also similar as they have a great deal of bubbles trapped inside when set. This again makes things lighter with the advantage that trapped air is also a good insulator.
Just thought of shaving foam as well!

I had a Physics teacher called 'Bubbles' Bergen. I never knew how he got that nickname but he was pretty useful to my particular Physics experience.
