Title: ESP
Post by: litespeed on 03/11/2009 20:17:35
Vern,

All of this speculation is also 'entangled' [pardon the pun] with a long history of ESP research at Drake and elsewhere. ESP experiments have shown unequivacle statistical significance over decades.  The effect is small, and will do you very little good in Los Vegas.  However, I refuse to reject these statistical results.

Further, the results seem to confirm a small statistically significant effect at premonition. Specifically, the target subject actually responds BEFORE the sender has initiated the communication.  They usually use a double blind structure using either large playing cards, or video sreen imputs.

I've seen the experiments. I never gave much credence to them. But they are interesting.

Remember; you can have positive results and you can have negative results, simply by chance. So if you subconsciously select the positive results and ignore the negative, you will end up with skewed results.

If someone can let me know which thread this is referring to, i'll merge it into place.  I can't follow conversations that branch out into new threads like this.

Litespeed, please keep conversation to it's originating thread, or at least include a link and some context

Hi BenV; I think litespeed meant to start a new thread. This subject wasn't being discussed in another. I guess, like me, he is still getting up to speed with the forum particulars. [:)]

However, I refuse to reject these statistical results.

I have never taken part in any such experiment but I have a personal experience that satisfies my belief in such phenomenon.

I now live in a different state that my siblings and haven't seen my brothers for many years. Recently, I had a dream that my youngest and I were sitting together on an airplane. Suddenly, he became violently ill and I was, understandably very concerned. Upon waking, the dream stayed on my mind for several days upon which I decided to communicate with my Mother. I called her and to keep the credibility of my intentions pure, I didn't mention the dream to her. After a few words, she asked me; "Did you hear about what happened to your younger brother"? I answered "No I haven't" She then explained to me that he had been on a trip to Mexico and had gotten food poisoning while flying back on the airliner. Needless to say, the hair stood up on the back of my neck.

Not to belabor the point, BUT, this is not the only time I've experienced such things, so yes, I believe...................

So you've had one dream that correlated with a real world event coincidently. That's not suprising considering the probably thousands you've had in your lifetime.

The point you're making is quite understandable. However, in this case, the timing was extraordinary and the old saying is quite apropos: "Timing is everything"

..and the millions of times it wasn't good timing you didn't think "Oh how weird, that thing I dreamed of didn't come true".

Ben,

I have not intentionally left the original thread.  Instead, I think what happened is my login timed out and when I signed back the post ended up as a new topic. I have increased the time out.  In addition, if it ever happens again I will completely log off the site and start over.

Fair enough, thanks for looking into it.  If you let me know which thread it was, I can merge the two together.

I can't remember.  However, Vern is correct this was something of a digression related to one or another quantum mechanics/extra dimensions thread.

madi,

I have had a couple of ESP events of my own, but they did not include this premonition thing.  Both were dreams. In one, my Aunt died without my knowing. In in a dream the same night she made a comment that was both unexpected, and very illuminating. I think it was a bit of an appology.

The other was a bit weird. My grandmother wrote her own graveside eulogy. In it she promised to visit us from time to time.  Years later I had a dream in which she said three things. 1) She was doing this in order to fulfill her promise. 2) She did not like doing it because it separated her from her where she was supposed to be. I could almost see her struggling to do it through a sort of forced individualization from a cloud like structure 3) Not to worry about dieing.
