Paul Anderson asked the Naked Scientists:
Hi Chris and team,
If a European reads a text in his own language and a Chinaman reads the same text written in Chinese, and they are both brain scanned while they do that, are the same parts of their brains lighting up, or is the artistic side of the Chinese brain lighting up because of the Chinese characters?

I understand that different parts of the brain may be involved. It was observed that some stroke patients who lost the ability to communicate in one form of Japanese still retained ability in the other.
