"Cold fusion" was experimentally demonstrated in the 50's. In fact, the very term "cold fusion" was coined to describe these experiments from the 50's, experiments which are universally accepted as good science, and are not controversial in any way. Additional, it should be noted that this "cold fusion" does not produce neutrons, it produces helions / alpha particles and gamma rays.
Look up muon catalyzed fusion.
