Title: Why can I not access EGG online banking using IE5 to IE9?
Post by: syhprum on 07/06/2012 15:52:50
A grand prize of one cd copy of the latest free release of Windows 8 to anyone who can demonstrate a download of bank accounts via EGG with any browser other than IE5 to IE9.

????

Is this what you mean?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egg_Banking

I use Firefox for all my banking at Wells Fargo Bank, and was also able to use it with Bank of America earlier.  I have a stock brokerage account that I can more or less access with programmable JAVA.

Is it an option to look for a bank that allows the internet access you like?

Post your bank account credentials if you want me to try logging in   [;)]

Much as I would like to go into this in detail I do not feel I can publish all my bank details even to a respected fellow correspondent, Here is a screen capture of what is reported when I try to access my various accounts as you see it is no problem to access EGG but no other accounts are possible unless I use IE6 to IE9 (IE10 in Windows 8 is no good!).
Perhaps some expert in browsers who uses EGG Will help.

That is an idea I will look around for another bank I am really choked of with EGG I have raised this with them several times but they show no interest.
I even told them I was getting a new computer that would have Windows 8 with IE10 but they said it was much to early to look into the matter with a new operating system

It may be that EGG is not up to speed on the latest version of IE (#10)

As I said previously I rarely use IE but I do recall it has a “compatibility mode” for viewing older websites … http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compatibility_mode_%28software%29#Later

I've had problems with Beta versions of browsers with some banks, but usually once the product is released, they will actually recognize them.  I presume they think of restricting the use of Firefox or other browsers as a security thing.

Did you actually try Firefox or Chrome?

I like the idea of compatibility mode for various Internet Explorer versions.  That doesn't help me if I don't use IE though.  You might be able to hack the ID portion of your browser if you have the source code.

Does EGG provide electronic funds transfers somewhat like PayPal that is frequently used in E-Bay?

Yes I tried firefox and tried to get some results with Windows 8 which is rather difficult to work with until you learn all its trick but with no success.

EGG is very good for transfers but pays little interest, I have recently emptied my EGG savings to pay off a mortgage on which I was paying 5.18% hence the very small amount in that account.

Clicking on the torn page icon turns on compatibility mode (effectively reverting to IE7) ...

I have IE9, so I don't know where compatibility mode is in IE10, but it's in there somewhere ...

Both Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10 also offer a compatibility mode.

I found it and it works, you have to get the toolbars which don't come up automaticaly before you can find tools
One small step on the way to win 8.
I will try google toolbar tomorrow when I am less tired and more sober.

Still don't think there is any chance using non IE browser

I will certainly try Opera but I don't quite understand by what you mean by "identify it it as IE9" , by the way google toolbar works OK in Windows 8.
You may be well on the way to winning the coveted prize !.

The tools I was referring to (http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=44379.msg389968#msg389968) were the "Tools" in Internet Explorer (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Show-the-menus-in-Internet-Explorer), not "Google Toolbar",
The presence or absence of Google Toolbar (https://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/toolbar/ie/index.html) shouldn't make any difference as to whether or not you can access the EGG website.

Until I got IE10 to display some toolbars (not google) I could not see a way to access tools ,as soon as I had toolbars up I could see the broken page.

the title is not correct it should read.
Why can I only access EGG banking with IE9 or IE6

Compatibility mode in IE does exactly that: it changes the user agent string (to IE7) ...

Beginning with Windows Internet Explorer 8, the version token reported in the user-agent string may not reflect the actual version of the browser. If Compatibility View is enabled for a webpage or the browser mode is set to an earlier version, the version token reports the earlier version.
