Dearest Peeps Of Educational Kudos & IQ Grandeur,
As a sheepy I of course luff batteries. Batteries are my all time favourite things that ewe put into other things that then makes them go !
As ewe well know ...batteries come in two forms:
Yellow Ones:
[ Invalid Attachment ]
& Blue Ones:
[ Invalid Attachment ]
Any other battery colour is a fake and should have it's bot bot smakked and then sent home !
I was thinking (this made me also perpsire quite a lot)....
Why is is that ewe can't recharge nonchargeable batteries ?..they have to be charged up in the first place yes ?..so why can't they just be charged up again ?
What then is the difference between regular batteries and rechargeable ones ?..they both occupy the same streamlined size and space !
As a firm believer in empirical study I snukk into my neighbours house at 3am this morning and ransacked his entire home. He was quite happy to allow me to do this as he willingly let me tie him to his chair and gag him. I was looking for batteries..I found none...so...knowing that he has lots of energy I attached some electrodes to his toes and attempted to charge him up via the National Grid !............well..I ask ewe !..despite being able to fry a ' Full English' on his head I found no indication of extra energy once I unplugged him....In fact........the contrary was proved !...he seemed to function better without being zapped !!...so...no luck there !..and this empirical data seems to fly in the face of battery convention !
I don't know....I really don't *le bewildered*
can ewe explain the difference chargeable and non chargeable batteries and as to why specifically regular ones can not be recharged having once been charged already ?

All that a battery is is a series of chemical reactions. This is how they make a battery http://www.rayovac.com/wizard/battery_howmade.htm
Some chemical reactions are easy to reverse, others are not so easy if at all. I suppose the reactions in a nonrechargeable battery can be reversed but it would cost more than it is to make a new one.

Non rechargeable batteries are normally fully charged when they are assembled - because of the state of the chemicals they use. They are not made discharged then "charged" electrically later.
Some chemistries are more reversible than others, and often charging the batteries releases hydrogen at the electrodes. This is bad as the hydrogen, if it isn't reabsorbed back into the chemicals will build up pressure and cause the battery to explode - and even if the hydrogen escapes safely, losing some of your chemicals is going to mean the battery degrades over a number of charge/discharge cycles.
Batteries which are meant to be recharged have chemistries which are more reversible, and safety features such as over-pressure release valves so that even if the batteries are mistreated and badly charged they shouldn't fail with fire or a bang.

I am not sure about modern alkaline batteries but old fashoined zinc carbon cells can be recharged a bit with care. They need to be recharged after each use with a similar amount of power to what was drawn from them. Many years ago when I was a povery stricken student I used a recharger to get 3 or 4 times the life out of a PP3 battery for my tiny transistor radio (one of the first ones available on the market). If you overcharge them there is a risk that the cells might explode so this needs to be done very carefully. The batteries did tend to swell a bit as yo recharged them. In theory all electrochemical reactions are revesable it is just that primary (non rechargable ) batteries are much more difficult to reverse and may have problems.

I've managed to 'recharge' Duracell alkaline PP3 9v batteries in the past using the 'dirty DC' technique, with some success ... but I have had the inner cells 'pop' - the battery leaps up off the table, flips through 180 degrees, and lands again - which is a bit scary.
I wouldn't attempt it with any bigger (mechanically stronger) cells such as AA, C, D, etc. Nor would I use a battery I'd messed with inside any equipment I cared about. It's not recommended, and very much at-your-own-risk.
