Physiology & Medicine / Human Barometer?
« on: 29/09/2005 20:17:29 »
Anywhere up to 24 hours before it rains, I break out in an area about the size of a 50 cent piece.  It looks like poison oak and itches like crazy.   I've had this condition for about 20 years.

The odd part is the location on my body changes almost every year.  Right now it is located on the inside of my left knee, but it's been on my elbows, forearms, calf, toe, and even my nipple.  When it was on my nipple, it was during a period of time when I was nursing, so there was excess moisture which may have contributed.

The doctor perscribed a topical medication which always stops the itching, but that's not really my question.

My real [?] is why does this happen?  My friends used to think me nuts, but now have become believers [8)]

Any ideas?

Physiology & Medicine / Incorrect Hypothyroid Diagnosis??
« on: 08/11/2005 20:03:31 »
Hi all,

Have any of you experienced some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism such as fatigue, memory loss, weight gain, depression, constipation, yada yada but tested within the normal range.  I've had my thyroid tested numerous times but I always come back within the normal range (whatever that is).

I'm curious if some Doctor's will go ahead and treat this anyway with a low dosage of whatever it is they prescribe because maybe my "range" isn't normal.

Let me know if any of you have similar experiences.

Thanks,
Laurie

Physiology & Medicine / I am Sodium Deficient - What does this mean?
« on: 07/10/2005 23:23:52 »
Hi,
I just had a blood test done and the doctor called and said they want to retest me because my sodium level was low.

What are the side effects of low sodium?   I always thought I had to worry about too much salt???

I think I eat a normal amount of salt, in fact I think I'm retaining water from too much.

Any ideas?

Physiology & Medicine / Have you ever had a Thunderclap Headache During Orgasm?
« on: 04/10/2005 22:25:58 »
Has anyone ever experienced a "thunderclap" headache right at the time of orgasm?   I've had this happen a couple of times, and it happens almost spontaneously.

The headache is excrutiating (spelling?).  I ended up having a migrane for a few days afterwards as well.

I didn't mess around, I went to the doctor, they did a MRI and found nothing.  I was told this happens sometimes for no apparent reason or cause.

Just curious if I was alone in this.....

Honey, I really DO have a headache [}:)]

Physiology & Medicine / Sleep Apnea - Is there a cure?
« on: 26/09/2005 19:24:22 »
Hi,
My husband seems to be experiencing more and more sleep apnea.  He is a few pounds overweight (25 maybe).  He seems to be better when he lies on his side.  He feels really tired in the morning, even after 8 hours sleep.  Does anyone have a miracle cure?
Thanks!

Complementary Medicine / What is Plantar Fasciitis (Heel Spurs) and what causes plantar fasciitis?
« on: 14/09/2005 15:05:30 »
Hi,
I think I have Plantar Fasciitis, sometimes called heel spurs.  I went jogging in February, and my feet started to hurt.  I attributed it to being out of shape & overweight.  I kept running and now I'm STILL regreting it.[xx(]  I wake up every morning barely able to walk.  It feels like I stepped on a rock while barefoot (on my heel).  I've tried arch supports, but thus far no luck.  Does anyone have any better suggestions?

Physiology & Medicine / Klonopin & Anxiety Attacks
« on: 15/09/2005 17:28:40 »
Hi,
I find myself almost on a daily basis getting facial tingling/numbing primarily on my right side of my face.  This has been going on off and on for over 2 years.

I've had an MRI & CAT scan to make sure there wasn't a brain tumor....  I've tried PAXIL for a 4 months but that didn't seem to help.  I did some self medicating, and found that Klonopin seems to help (I take a half of a 0.5 mg tablet, if I take more it makes me too sleepy) usually, within 10 minutes I notice the tingling seems to disappear.

Has anyone else ever heard of treating something like this??

Am I just having mild panic attacks on a daily basis?  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Laurie
