Title: How can i extract turpentine from tree sap?

I'm trying to extract and purify the turpentine in spruce tree sap (i would use pine sap but they don't grow where i live)
if anyone has a method please tell me.  :)

I'm fairly sure the process is a simple steam distillation but that does mean heating the resin until it boils (and collecting the vapour)
Not an easy process and potentially dangerous.
