I am looking for help to make coloured smoke for testing of pressurised storage rooms.....something easily made with components from household or similar....

There are commercially available smoke candles for sewer testing and fire training. Try searching web in your area.

Sugar and potassium nitrate is quite easy to make and generates quite a thick white smoke, though I am unsure if the smell lingers or not.
