Marine Science / Re: Are fish slower in icy waters?
« on: 02/07/2019 11:16:34 »
Fish don't have to breathe as fast in cold water because their metabolism has slowed down and simply doesn't require as much oxygen. Furthermore, cold water contains more dissolved oxygen than warm water so they don't have to work as hard to extract the oxygen.

Sleeper sharks have been known to eat dead whales...
See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whale_fall

Many sharks have sensors in their nose to detect electrical activity in muscles, and these sensors would not be triggered by dead bodies - but many sharks are also sensitive to blood, and this would often attract them to dead bodies....
Very nice explanation, this helps me to know some unknown facts about sharks.

General Science / Re: Why are clouds "bumpy"?
« on: 19/06/2019 07:22:08 »
This air, and the air it pushes above it eventually cools to the point that the moisture in it condenses. That creates puffy cumulus clouds. ... So clouds are bumpy partly because of rising air and partly because of the way that bubble of air breaks up inside them.
