A ribbon-like formation of particles known as energitic neutral atoms have been found in the outermost part of our galaxy. Very interesting find.

Your reference does not appear to give the information that you suggest and your comments seem to suggest some misunderstanding of the report so please could you give a more detailed reference so I can check it out.

I wonder if this ribbon of stuff could be tied in with another thing we know little about; dark matter??

It goes without saying that we harsh in saying we know that certain gravitational effects are missing. The reason why, is that there is so much phenomena we have yet to uncover, which is estimated at well over 50% of the entire universe.

So in light of these new structures, what else have we yet to discover?

Thank you for posting the correct reference.  There is, as I suspected, a fundamental mistake in your original posting.  This string of neutral atoms is at the edge of the solar system and not the galaxy.  The article is I believe a bit over hyped (as are most scientific reports nowadays) various sorts of shock waves were expected to be at the extreme edge of the solar system and this is just one of the possibilities and is very interesting.  It has only just been possible to observe neutral atoms and as always with a new window on the universe we see interesting and unusual features which we eventually learn to understand
