Cells, Microbes & Viruses / Re: How do viruses cause disease
« on: 17/07/2014 06:43:03 »
Virus take up the control over protein formation machinery of human body cells once inside and these protein machinery now instead of forming human proteins produce viral proteins. Thus viral proteins formed unite to form a new viral particle. The human dead cell now busts and releases new viral particles.

Cells, Microbes & Viruses / Re: How do stem cells produce other cells?
« on: 16/07/2014 08:39:16 »
Stem cells modify themselves to another types of body cells. Yes, Stem cells multiply to produce another stem cells.
ya, There are different types of stem cells. They have same DNA as other body cells. Stem cell of one organism cannot differentiate into another.

for more on types of stem cells see

Yes, except nerve cells.

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Re: What organises cells to form structures in the body?
« on: 16/07/2014 08:29:40 »
It must be the DNA. As all the cells in the embryo are same. they differentiate to different structures and organs during growth.  This controlled by protein formation through transcription.

Physiology & Medicine / Re: Can malaria be reprogrammed to attack malaria?
« on: 16/07/2014 08:27:59 »
Quite interesting. But malaria is a protozoa and attacks only liver and red blood cells. So it is interesting to see if malaria parasites can kill at-least liver cancer cells. From practical point of view it may not be possible as the parasite relies on hemoglobin in red blood cells to sustain and multiply in the body.
