Title: POLL: Did we land on the moon?
Post by: qpan on 27/09/2004 20:54:32
Not sure if a similar thread has appeared before, but i thought i'd bring up this topic after watching a documentary on it recently detailing all of the reasons why the moon landing(s) may have been been faked.

Many of the reasons (for those who don't know them yet) are given on this webpage:
http://www.ufos-aliens.co.uk/cosmicapollo.html

I used to be a firm believer that Neil Armstrong reached the moon. Now, I'm not so sure...

NOTE: This is now a poll- please indicate whether you believe we landed or not!

Oh puuullllleeeasssseeee!  Qpan, who hijacked your user id?????

This was debated ad nausem on several other threads.

Well, sorry for not posting in the previous thread. I assume you guys believe we landed on the moon then?

I think we should turn this into a poll thread then - please indicate whether you believe we landed on the moon or not (with a yey or a nay)

YES - there is no way the US governmnet could be organized enough to pull off a coverup like that. The coverup would definitely be more complicated than actually going to the moon.

I remember seeing a program on fox a couple years ago on this topic, totally farout, but not so as to where its unbelievable.  But the flag waveing in the non existant wind, the starless background in the picture along with the spaceship covering up half the crossshair.

I DO believe it only because i see no TRUE reason to cover it up.

Yes! In fact, there is a secret government base there that is the home to Elvis, Colonel Sanders and the REAL John F. Kennedy.
Now that it is known that I posess this knowledge, please carry on my legacy if the MIB come to get me.

No. I watched a very convincing documentary a week ago.

1 week ago i was a firm believer that we'd landed on the moon, but now, considering the evidence, i am extremely sceptical!

Reasons: waving flag, covered crosshairs, no blast craters, playing moon video at x2 speed shows footage exactly same as on earth in a desert, intense radiation, inconsistencies between still photos and video, shadows in various angles (as if multiple light sources were used) and several other reasons. Also the head of the space program said it was extemely unlikely they'd reach the moon soon and 2 years later someone successfully reaches the moon.

The US goverment had a huge motive - winning the space race during the cold war. Russia beat them to everything in the space race up until that point; first person in space, first satellite, etc.

Dunno- just my view!

OK, so lets get this straight... The US was so incompetent that not only could they not fly to the moon, but they couldn't even fake a photograph that would convince an amateur. But they COULD do an air-tight coverup of the whole program, that employed 100,000 people for 10 years... Yes, on second thought, it must be a fake; and Elvis, JFK, Lee Harvey Oswald, Salamon Rushdie, and the alien from Roswell are all living comfortably at Tranquility Base.

Did our lovely happy friendly Ruskies put people on the moon ?..and if they did, did they fake that ? or did they fake NOT going the moon ?

The ruskies have never sent a man to the moon - they tried twice after apollo 11 landed and both attempts were failures.

Explain to me how a thin film of metal (spacesuit) can block so much radiation (from e.g. solar winds)?

It couldn't have been that effective yet how come none of the astronauts have had long term health issues such as cancer?

How come the US were so far behind then suddenly overtook the russians?

How many countries (other than the US) have actually landed on the moon?

Also, do you know to what extent the practice "run through" failed by? The communications did not even work and then it blew up, killing 6 astronauts in the process.

Also dodgy how the person who said nasa had very little chance of succeeding in a moon landing soon (that was said two years before the "moon landing") gets killed (in a hit and run car accident i think).

Explain to me how (even if a supporting rod was used) that the flag waved. Footprints on the moon are supposed to last for thousands of years. If there was such a breeze on the moon, they would certainly not last thousands of years.

Yes.

I made it so Man/Woman could walk on the moon. It's as easy as walking on water. neilep may have been serving pancakes, but I was pouring on the maple syrup.

qpan,

If you need to see a good source of rebuttal information regarding the nonsensical claims that the moon landing was staged/faked, go here:

There's all sorts of fun goodies on this site that involve debunking far-out claims and various other pseudo-sciences. :o)

As I find this quite scientific, and truly impressive in its whole.
I just want to add.

What is NASA?

and, does it exist?

Oh, wait, in 1960, computer graphics was in its infancy.

That is why all of our lunar images look like this.

Keep in mind that Craters of the Moon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craters_of_the_Moon_National_Monument_and_Preserve) is actually a place in Idaho, and not in space.

And, apparently Apollo astronauts did visit it as part of their training.

Isn't that potato land? Idaho?
Always liked potatoes.

so the moon stones come from Idaho then?

Eh, moon rocks I meant.
And so it does.

We are getting us a TOE here methinks.
One thing left, what about electricity?
NASA:s idea too?

And what is really inside those bulbs?
Pyrophorus?

I find NASA rather cruel if so. leaving them to die, or is the 'electrical cable' only a euphuism for some sort of tube from where they come? Could be, could be. Well then, no animal cruelty at least.

This is still a tricky one, when I was 15 years old and on a school holiday in France, I can still see the headline news in a newspaper 'La Homme sur la lune!' please excuse the spelling if wrong, I was so excited as most of us were, although I have some doubts now about the landing on the moon, I think they did actually travel round the far side of the moon, and after seeing those structures they NASA decided it was not a good idea to land. Interestingly well before video recorders were available to the general public, I can remember whatching a TV documentary about wierd things and astronaughts and missing people, the program was titled 'Science Report' and I'm sure it was broadcast on Granada TV, or possibly Thames TV station around 1977 possibly 1978, In it one of the astronaughts Buzz Aldrin says, (and they mention he is saying this under the influence of taking a lot of alcohol), ''Do you think we need a bicycle to get up there?'' he was refering to aparently what he had seen on the far side of the moon, alien spacecraft we presume, but he was loud in his slurred speach and when asked for further details, he said '' cut, that's it, I've said enough''  at that time I did have a sound recording of this program, but sadly it has been lost. The only thing that lends any credence to the validity of the space walk, is the low gravity effect you see when they bounce around. If anyone here on the naked scientist knows of the TV broadcast I'm talking about, I'd like to hear from them.

Even now, it would be hard for special effects to create fake footage of people moving around on the moon - everything they do in CGI still looks to me like a cartoon, but the moon landings look real.

Some of it could be faked by suspending a person with a cable and pulley system, giving them the effect of low gravity, especially in the bulky space suits.  Or, perhaps, building a lightweight robot in a helium filled suit.

But, judging by the number of Hollywood blockbusters that have created 100% realistic lunar scenes, it is hard to imagine that NASA could have faked it 50 years ago.

Undoubtedly, it would have been cheaper to just send man to the moon than to try to fake sending man to the moon.

Of course humans have been to the moon. They almost stayed there too.
