Dearest Naked Science Peeps Of High IQ Stature,


 Robert Caldwell of Dartmouth College estimates that the Universe will end in The Big Rip..

This worries me a lot as next Tuesday I have an important appointment and the big rip is only fifty billion years away !!....if he's miscalculated then I could miss my appointment !


What is the general consensus about this theory ?...does it have a reasonable level of credence than any others ?

What do YOU think and do you have your own postulations on how it will all end ?

The big rip is one of the possibilities in the models people have built for universes.  it is in effect an extended form of the inflation that some others envisage started the universe coupled with the recent observations that suggest that the expansion of the universe is increasing (at a relatively modest rate).  Frankly I feel that both of these ideas are unlikely to be the whole story once we get a proper theory of everything.  This will explain the processes that cause space to expand and explain why quantum theory shows that the universe is simultaneously very large and very small.

I have my own ideas on what the most probable answer would be and am happy to discuss it but that is more suited for the New theories area as it is not currently in the sights of current cosmology

Ian.....when, and if you have the inclination, I am sure we would all welcome the chance to read, and for some of us, to digest, with great interest your ideas on the most probable ideas in the New Theories Section based on your valued knowledge and personal perspectives.

I will do this shortly after I have done a bit more exploring kindred thinkers on the topic of Evolutionary Cosmology
