Can someone please explain to me :

Why is glass transparent?

Materials are transparent to electromagnetic radiation (including light)when they are not electrically conducting, they do not consist of molecules that interact with and absorb the frequency of radiation that is being used and they have a uniform structure that does not scatter the light. Glass can be made to comply with all these three requirements,

Opalescent and frosted glass is glass that has been changed to scatter light either by putting particles in it or roughening the surface so it does not let light pass through it in straight lines.  coloured glass is glass that contains atoms or molecules that absorb particular frequencies of light and if you cover smooth glass with a conducting metal film the light no longer goes right through the glass but is reflected to form a mirror.
