Ferrofluid (magnetic liquid) looks pretty but it smells like old engine oil.
-
Those are really cool!...
-
How does that work?
-
I do not know for certain but it is what is used in Ferrari shock absorbers instead of hydraulic oil.
-
How does that work?
The spiral towers are electromagnets, the strength of the magnetism is varied thought the video.
The ferrofluid is a liquid version of iron filings reacting to magnetic field.

Damned clever, that!

Again using an electromagnets, the viscosity of the ferrofluid can be varied, enabling electrically variable damping.
