How do "anti-static" sprays work?

How do "anti-static" sprays work?

Someone has suggested that i spray my clothes with an anti-static spray to cut down on the shocks that i get! How do they work?

    I don't know what they contain exactly, but it will be something that conducts electricity slightly. This means that charge will short out between you and the clothes slowly which you will not notice rather than all at once in a spark.
