My late father has discs of them for some reason. George Washington was known to hate them, probably because it reminded him of cannon fire. Napoleon loved them, probably because it reminded him of cannon fire.

I've thought about this before in evolutionary terms. My hypothesis is that stormy weather represents an opportunity to rest in peace. When it rains, large predators seek shelter so early humans wouldn't have needed to be as on guard.

It's good to be reminded that nature is a lot bigger and more important than religion or politics. When it rains, everyone gets wet.

I am terrified by both, having had several close shaves working on broadcast equipment.

Because at a genetic level humans understand that during a storm no animal will hunt so you can sleep peacefully.

As a child, when woken up by thunder at night, I would mentally chart the distance to the storm by counting the seconds between the flash and the sound.
Now I just use an app on my phone (which also works for rain with no accompanying lightning).
