How important is it to geld a horse?

I can understand doing it to our canines and especially our felines, as well as horses that graze, but domesticated horses do not have the opportunity for sex.

Having the means and motive but not the opportunity can make any animal a bit grumpy. Nobody wants a grumpy horse delivering the milk or taking their kids for a ride..
