Kinda new here, so I'm lost on the "spamming" thing, I assume the spam part was already removed... Anyway, Water filtration IS important no matter what your source... Where I live we drink our toilet water, Our county system of recycling water is so great that Japan sent people over to study it... Everywhere else has lesser water, perhaps, but even with our great county system, the water has to travel through old pipes before we can use it... Water, by nature is our #1 source of minerals, so I'm against things like Reverse Osmosis, because while most bottled water is cleaned that way, the bottlers reAdd the minerals which is something we can't do at home... My solution is a filter that stops Sediment and Chlorine combined with an under counter unit with a filter that stops everything else for drinking... These systems are available everywhere for just a couple hundred dollars... The expense comes in with the replacement filters, basically you should spend about $250 per year to filter the water, $30 filters, 4 times a year... But here's the beauty, not only do you get to drink clean fresh safe water, but the filter saves all your water using items in your house... Chlorine and sediment attacks the copper piping as well as the rubber "gaskets" that keep all your water appliances, faucets, toilets etc from leaking... Good water filtration save not only you, but your home as well... and maybe the costs balance...

Most of us don't do all that.
Most of us still manage.
So doing that is not necessary.

So why are you advocating what is plainly a waste of water?

Where I live we drink our toilet water,
So you come from hell then rodin ?

Many people in london also drink there toilet water, it is used cleaned and discharged into the rivers, only to be picked up again, many believe this is a major source of estrogen, via the birth control pilletc that is turning men infertile.

I completely agree with you. Therefore, I entrusted the choice and installation of water purification systems to professionals. It's convenient. Because the quality of water varies greatly depending on the place of residence. And a filter that suits someone might be useless to you. Therefore, it is important to choose a filter individually. So I decided that it is better to do it professionals

Whether you need a home water filtration system depends on your living environment. If the water in your area is heavily polluted, it is absolutely necessary to purchase a filtration system. Because it is about the health of a family.
Health is the first place. do you think so?

I agree with you that we need to be careful when choosing a whole house water filter. I used some types of filters but I think there is the 30-micron carbon filter that effectively filters out and removes sand, silt, particles, debris, rust, and other sediments. There is also a filter that ais to improve the taste and smell of your water. As such, it will also target and filter out chemicals such as chlorine and hydrogen sulfide. Lastly, there is a 5-micron filter that will ensure extra protection against microscopic bacteria, viruses, and anything that’s left. Because of this, this water filtration system is extremely versatile and convenient to use.

I live in the countryside and owned a well in my garden. I measured the sediment ratio of my well a few days ago and it was high, so I want to buy a sediment well water filter to protect my family members' health. I am looking for a filter that works effectively and has a reasonable price so I decided to buy (SPAM removed). I liked that the filter system can protect the plumbing system. With it, we can prevent the building up of dirt, rust, sediment, and sand. It can also help filter down particles with 50 microns. I also liked that it is designed with a durable lead-free machine head, so you can look forward to long-term use. I also noticed that the sediment filter that can last for up to two years.

I would go with a reverse osmosis water filter. They are very slow but filter a wide range of contaminants; chlorine, chloramine, bad odors/tastes, heavy metals, fluoride, chromium and more. I'm using a filter that comes with it's own storage tank, faucet and water supply connector.

You can easily test if your filter works using a digital tds meter.

Many years ago, I have visited friends in the city of Adelaide (Australia). Their town water had a distinctly muddy taste, and nearly everyone had a filter on the kitchen water supply. Our friends had a big outdoor unit (it wouldn't fit under the sink!).

They told me that every few months they have to wash it out, and it picks up a lot of dirt in that time.

How about this?

Normally, in a developed country you shouldn't need to worry. If you still do you should take it up with your providers, and you need to check that well before you use it.

I'd like to know about limescale removal, I come from a soft water area so I do not know anything about it. Do you filter all water or only the drinking? How long does a filter last?

It really depends on where you live. If the water in your area is heavily polluted, it is essential to use a filtration system. However, a filtration system can never be a mistake. Better safe than sorry.

Yes it can.
It can be a waste of money.
It can also be a place for harmful bacteria to thrive.

I lived for a year in a "hard" water area.

Our rented house did not filter the water at all, but we did need to regularly buy products from the supermarket that would remove limescale from the electric kettle (among other utensils). Water evaporates in the kettle, leaving behind a thermally insulating coating on the heating element.

Soap produced almost no lather when taking a shower.

I recomend using charcoal, you can make it yourself and simply stick a stick in your water tank.

Not sure how long for or how much, you'll have to research that.

I bought <<<BRAND. REMOVED>>> water filter system to try and solve the sediment problem from our well. I read some reviews that said the threads were trash, but I thought I would give it a try. I had no problems with the threads. I simply got a few 1" male adapters and Teflon tape, and they went right in. I did turn it counter clockwise for a bit until I felt the threads line up, so maybe the bad reviews had to do with cross threading, not sure. As far as the filtration goes, it worked great. It is not perfect, but I am not blaming it on the unit itself, but rather my choice of cartridge. I went with the 50 micron, but I plan on plumbing another one of these units in series with a 5 micron filter. I have some pretty sandy water, so I figure the first one will get the big stuff, and the finer filter will get the smaller stuff. Hope this helps!

Yep, we can’t live without water to drink and it’s important that the water we drink is clean and safe from things like bacteria or chemical that can cause disease. We also use water to clean ourselves, our clothes and our homes. Thus I think home water filtration system is worthy.

There are a number of different types of water filters for different situations.  Many could be DIY (or in part DIY).

Many of the ion exchange type filters are basically a tank with a catalyst medium that you flow water through, then periodically flush.  You should be able to purchase the catalyst, but getting the timers for automatic flushing would be tricky.

I'm not sure about osmotic and nanofilters.  One trick that will help is to have multiple filters, so if you have a very expensive last filter, you're gone through layers of sand, charcoal, and other filters,so you have very clean water going into the special filter.

Somewhere I read that some municipal systems have banned water softeners.

Water softeners are being banned because of the negative effects they have on agriculture.  (https://www.lifesourcewater.com/blog/water-softeners-banned-by-law.php)

This talks about California, but it may also be true in parts of Europe.  If one puts tons of salt into the system, it can be really hard to get back out.

You will all continue to drink water as long as you and your family are alive. As opposed to relying on bottled water, filtering water is a far more economical and environmentally responsible solution. Although it doesn't necessarily eliminate plastic trash, it greatly reduces it.

Worth remembering that when the US food & drug administration tested practically every available brand of bottled water about 30 years back, they found New York public mains water to have the lowest level of pathogens and contaminants.

Also worth noting that the BBC ran an open-label tasting competition between various bottled waters. The highest score from every taster was given to a product whose label said it was spring water from an uninhabited  Pacific island over 1000 miles from any source of industrial pollutant. All the bottles actually contained chilled London tap water.

Yes, I refill the bottled water containers till they basically stop being usable again, and there is no taste difference between the water I left in one 2 years ago, and a freshly bought bottle. Not exactly a surprise, seeing as the water source for both of them in my case is the same dam and water treatment works, just one went to a bottling plant first, and my water just goes through a 0,3micron water filter, to get the fine suspended solids out. The fish and the cat, who drinks the fish water, get the ion exchange resin and carbon filtered water. they love it, and I often drink it as well, just prefer the taste of the small amounts of dissolved carbonates in the water.

I think having a home water filtration system is not a waste of money. Your family may be able to access clean, safe drinking water from it. The correct home water filters can also safeguard your plumbing fixtures, provide you more energizing showers, and enable you to prepare healthier foods. Fixtures are always easy to clean.

Hello all,

We're back in Cyprus at the moment for three weeks.

We found out about the hard water issue in Cyprus during our last trip and were advised to get a water filter that can be fitted on our external water meter to help future proof washing machine and water pump elements.

I've done some research online but there's a hell of a lot of information out there.

Can anyone recommend the best water filter to use in their own experience or at least point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

This is not the best place to ask, you need to go to a home equipment site.
The best that will happen here is that some spammer will come with a recommendation that will be removed.

The best water filter system is a 4 stage Reverse Osmosis with a pressuretrol reserve tank ( usually 5 gal ). This is piped (1/4″ tubing to a spigot you install in the soap dispenser hole in the backsplash to deliver > 95% pure drinking water. House pressure must be 40 psi or better for this system but if your supply is short there are small booster pumps available.

Well, at least no spam here yet. Yes the RO systems work, but I still have reasonable water out the tap direct, not the mix of water types that is the USA. That varies from good to Flint, and also so much is well water. But even the harder well water is still good. I see the best water is NYC, because the water board there owns the catchment areas, and has a lot of rather strict laws regarding what they allow as to pollution of it, and what they can do if you do pollute.

If you live in the UK or a good part of the EU with strict water quality controls, no need at all, though a whole house water filter, around 5 micron, is a good idea to remove any sediments that can be in the supply line, though if you are in a freezing area it must be in the basement or otherwise protected from freezing, and have a valve at entry and exit to allow changing of the filter at least annually.

If you are in the USA, depends on your local water source, and what they care about quality wise. Rest of the planet the same.

Water softening is more of an issue in the UK, most of the UK has very hard water. You might want to look into a water softener for your kettle, washing machine and dishwasher (although UK dishwashers generally have one built in).

The majority of toxins can be removed by most standard water filters, however fluoride will flow right through. This is due to the fact that fluoride cannot be removed by activated carbon, the material used in most water filters.

To me the water filter makes no sense, because I live on land where I have permanently good water from the ground, and if the water really is bad, the filter is what's going to help you survive so it's definitely not a waste of money.
