I was watching a science programme about bubbles last night on BBC Four and I was wondering why the BBC don't use TNS for their experts?

Isn't TNS broadcast on BBC?
Perhaps there is a difference between TV Broadcast and Radio Broadcast. A lot of TV is having great visual presentation, and now also having excellent graphics.
Much of the radio content is in interview format using various "experts" on different topics with the TNS staff not being an expert on everything. Forum members are scattered around the world, and while we have a variety of interests, we may not be the "experts" that are being sought either.
