Title: Vertigo treatment ...anyone??
Post by: Shaney on 03/08/2006 14:14:50
Hi-has anyone had treatment for vertigo? I think it's called 'Epley manouver'(???) I am going to have it in a few weeks as my vertigo is making it hard to look after my daughter now..I loose my balance bending down to pick her up or walking down stairs. I'd love to know how it went and if it worked. Thanks xx [xx(]

This site on Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) may be of interest:-

" More than 394 patients have been reported in blinded studies comparing the Epley or Semont maneuver to either placebo or medical treatment. The results are clearly in favor of these maneuvers. The median response in treated patients was 81%, compared to 37.% in placebo or untreated subjects. The few instances where the Epley or Semont results were not compelling (e.g. Blakely et al, 1994), may have been instances where technique was not perfected."

I've been to see the consultant today and have been diagnosed with Benign Positional Vertigo and Meniere's disease. At least I know now what the problem is. I have had the vertigo and sickness on and off for about 16 years. I now have hearing loss as well!! A lot of fun when my husband is profoundly deaf anyway..he gets annoyed at me now saying..'you what?' all the time!![:D]

Sarah,

Thank you so much for coming back to tell us.

It must have been a great sense of relief to be able to put a name to it and to have it known that it's a recognised condition.

Robert was so right in his links above wasn't he ?

We all wish you well.

Please come back and tell us how you are.
