Title: Just saying HELLO, newbie here ~ come in for a chat and assorted cookies... :)

You've got a really interesting and nice place here.
I think I'll stay a while and get to know you better.

Anyone having tea and cookies? 

.... chocolate ones if possible...[;D]

Alandriel is the name, wanderer and dabbler in all sorts of things. Forever interested in pretty much everything. A bit of a jack of all trades and a master..... well, of a few things I'd like to believe. But then I always meet someone to knows even more than I do - and that keeps the whole thing interesting  [;D]

.. oh yes - and I like chocolate

Nice to meat you Dr. Beaver (dam beavers!  [;)]), kdlynn (how do you pronouce that??), Mirage (hopefully not)and Karen  and thanks for stopping by. Have seen your posts here and there and a bit everywhere and I take you're all very regular here - I'm honored and in most excellent company already.  [;D]

Now to keep Mirage happy, here's the recipe for kdlynn (and anyone else who's brave enough to try)


Fold the two mixtures carefully together and fill into the muffin tray (or cake form etc). Bake for approx. 15-20mins (muffins) or 60-70mins (cake).
Icing: if you really want to go for it: blend an equal amount of butter with castor or powdered sugar and mix together until smooth. Add grated lemon (or lemon essence; cinnamon etc.) to taste and spread on top of cooled muffins/cake.


BON APPETIT!

oh - and I like to pop a wee marzipan carrot on top

Welcome to another Londoner (well, I'm not strictly a Londoner, but almost, and I know we have a few more true Londoners around here).

Swiss origin you say - that explains why I could not make head or tail of the name [:)]  I would guess, with a name like that, it is French Swiss rather than German Swiss.

But no, I’m afraid the name Alandriel would not have been much help in guessing my origins. It’s my ID from my Tolkien RP(*) days. The name has sort of stuck and become almost a second skin. On the Swiss note, I’m actually German Swiss, but French will do nicely too…. and a few others, as I’ve lived abroad for most of my life – hence, I’m just as much a real Londoner as you are if you take my meaning  [;D] Great place to be!!

Hmmmm I've got recipes involving cupressus sempervirens - that would be a tree; and also pinus silvestris, maleleuca alternifolia and hmmm let's see, ah yes - santalum album. Then I also have something very special up my sleeve involving salvadora persica.

Anything in particular that tickles your curiosity Doc Beaver?

How long have you guys/gals been here? Some of you have a postcounts that are simply astonishing.

On other boards there are memberlists with stats available but I guess not here (or at least I haven't found one). I've seen how I can access individual stats but those are limited.

Now I can spy on you all - still would be nice to have a memberslist rather than having to click on everyone. Phpp boards usually do have that feature....

Yummmmmy Lord that looks yummy!

I have been a registered member since sept. 2005 so two years! I have been reading the forum for about a year prior to that.so I guess registered for that little over two years..

Waffling should be more because like joining I waffled for a long time as I am a huge observer of people behaviours and mannerisms and I was very nervous and shy about joining any forum on the net.I still waffle and think I should leave but I am always on the fence about it!

I have a fresh apple cake that is killer, but it is ugly when cooked but oh so yummy! I wish I could send you some. I will find the recipe and post it. It is easy!!

Daughter has grown up a lot since that pic and is now 9 - time soooo flies  [:-\]
and I do miss my desert days, my wild roaming and diving days **********sigh*********
though I also love being in London
except for the dratted weather !!!!

But then it's all really in one's head and I'm not letting the blues get the better of me. Besides, now it's autumn and if just the sun would peak through I could go and take some more spectacular photos.
Weatherforecast has it raining all the coming week
I ain't believing them!!!!

Environmental issues mostly - that and bedouin culture in conjunction with the medicinal properties of the plants.
First a hobby, then it got a bit out of hand and I wrote a book about it.

Up is usually better than down, though I do like down also.

I think the uppest I've been is 4700something meters (almost the top of Mont Blanc in France)
and the lowest was -103m diving in the Red Sea

Since I have been giving you a little rubbish in the Geology part of the board I will fall on my knees, kiss your feet, and offer my sword to m'Lady. I am the resident lecherous old man of ill repute around here. - ask some of the other women. I do be a geologer, and an oil and gas geologer at that, with nothing to interst me but rocks and women and at my age all I do is drool.

I am a grumpy old man,I have a nasty disposition and I like hurting little bugs - cockroaches, to be exact. But then that isn't a big deal were we have more roaches than any other thing where I live. (Did you know that if you tape a large cockroach to the middle of turn-table thingy in a Microwave, put it on "high" for about 10 minutes _NOTHING HAPPENS!!! These things are indistructable!

But I digress. Welcome tot he forum, mam, may your stay be as beautiful as your soul seems to be.

i don't really feel bad for the bug... if we had roaches here i'd probably freak out. to get them here you have to live somewhere really really really gross and dirty.

LOL - seriously though. Isnt' it just simply unfair how things just spiral and then there's very little to stop the momentum until it kind of has spiraled itself out? Or at least that's how it can feel at times.

Monday - I forget to charge my phone (which primarily functions as my alarm clock since I tend to forget it at home when I step out for the school run and then have to chase up min 10 missed calls depending on just when exactly I step back in) and therefore had to almost run to school, a very irrate bra... erm... kid in tow. Not good for my bloodpressure at all

Tuesday - computer crashes and I spend 10 hours trying to fix the blasted thing. Plus I get wet 4 times as I'm too distracted to pack a brolly when I'm out on the school run again

Wednesday - credit card company calls and checks for security reasons if I've bought this morning £ 2500 worth of Tiffany jewellery.  I wish I had....  Later that day my shopping does not get delivered because of a cancelled credit card. After much negotiation and pleading they finally do deliver, at 11.30pm (!!!) but only about 50% as the store is 'in a very bad state and terribly understocked we're ever so sorry Madam but there's nothing we can do. We've been simply overwhelmed with orders' ...... yeah right!

Thursday - I'm still chasing up the wedding gift for friends of ours that ought to have been delivered by Monday and by now I know all Beethoven symphonies by heart. What happens when you combine DHL and Selfridges -- disaster, let me tell you! Add to that queueing at the post office for over an hour only to be told that I'd have to first fill in from 657 (or whatever) and got sent back to the end of another queue. After 40 mins in *that* queue I finally get to the clerk who every so sweetly tells me that they've run out of that particular form and that I should try........ I never heard the rest.


And the final straw was that the heel of my favorite shoes broke. Curse all cobble streets!


Did you know that you cannot find a pair of charcoal greay, nice looking low heeled leather boots in all of London?
