Hi chris,
I am trying to build a device which can absorb microwaves regardless of which frequency it is in and how long the microwave is.  In a nutshell, I was thinking along the lines of putting a program with all the frequencies programmed into a specific IC component of the circuit and then attaching an antenna to absorb the microwaves. All the other components i can add later on. I just need to know whether this is a viable idea or not as i am very interested in how microwaves work so building a device which can act as a receiver will be very challenging to me as i know the microwave transmitter can change frequencies using potentiometers. If you can shed some light on it i would be very grateful.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you

You need to know the center frequency and what the bandwidth is for an upper and lower sidebands.
Tuning a microwave horn receiver circuit is a bit different then just turning a variable capacitor trimmer/tuner for a low frequency antenna.
A microwave cage can absorb and shunt the microwave to ground ...

Your question is not clear. Why do you want to "absorb" the microwave frequencies? do you
1 Just want to get rid of them to make an are free of them
2 Do you just want to extract the energy that they contain so you can use it for another purpose
3 Do you want to extract the information that they may contain because this may be of use to you
What you need to do is very different in each of these cases.
Also as tommy says you cannot say "all" arbitrarily you need to know the range of frequencies
Microwaves are the frequency band from 1GHZ to 1000GHZ shorter than that is infra red and longer UHF radio
