Water is great !..I luff it and so should you !!
All Hail to water !!
But when I get back home, and considering the drought (in my neck of the woods), should I be concerned about running my taps for a while before drinking the water goodness [?]
Also, perhaps an explanation into what can happen to water if left in a plumbing system for a while would be nice.

Hey Neil, I think it won't be too bad a problem unless you have old iron pipes or well water. Wells need to be flushed out for a couple of days when they haven't been used and many times need to be treated before reusing them. Do you have well Water Sir? I don't think three weeks should pose you a problem, three months maybe!!

Hi Mam,
No mam...we do not have well water...we have mains water supplied by a company.
Thank you so much for your kind reply though....
Oh..are you saying (if I interpret my read between the lines correctly) that you are hinting that I should go away for three months then ?
Hurrumpth !!!!

I think this comes even more from the days when one used to have lead pipes, rather than iron pipes.
Whatever the pipes are made from, the longer the water has been standing in the pipes, the more of the material will have dissolved in the pipe; but the presumption (and I cannot say how valid this assumption is – after all, there was a time everyone said lead pipes were safe) modern plastic pipes will not cause much of a health problem.

Not at all Sir! You should just make sure if you are away for a longer period of time, should you have been on a well, That you might well have to treat your water! You might consider water witching SIR! It can prove beneficial if one is stranded on an island perhaps naked too!LOL
By the way, what lines are you reading between Sir!

KIND SIR! WHAT COULD YOU POSSIBLY BE TALKING ABOUT, AS I AM TOTALLY CLUELESS! The above said water should be fine if left unused for that short period of time! It should only be a prblem if it were unused for much longer amounts of time! then you should at least turn all the facetts on and run them at the same time for lets say 2 minutes, Just to clear any standing water that may be risidual in your pipes! Sir do you have chlorine in your water that comes in from the main. What kind of water treatment is done there in your country Sir! If it has Chlorine, I wouldn't worry at all unless you have old metal pipes that tend to take on some rust in the lines during prolonged settling of water!.......

Yes, TWO MINUTES For Plastic pipes![;)] Do you think you can do that Sir?[;)] Now remember, If the pipes are rusty it might take several hours to clean the pipes![:D] Older metal ones tend to take longer to clean the pipes out! Make sure they are thouroughly cleaned as improper cleaning might cause some health issues to arise![:)] You musn't take any chances Sir! [:D]
We wufs you to Loretta!!
