I believe that the afterlife is both racist and homophobic. I have never seen (on tv, or film) or read about a black ghost, or even a gay ghost..OK, I think the ghost in randall and hopkirk Deceased (spell check) may have been gay but no direct mention of this, and that Derek Akorah bloke may try and turn a few ghosts, but thats not the question...
Do you know of any gay or black ghosts?

Ghost Dad (1990) starring Bill Cosby
[ Invalid Attachment ]
The Grudge (with Japanese ghosts), not to mention all of the other Japanese ghost movies (there are LOTS!)
And there's a black guy in Ghostbusters! Though he's not dead. [:P] [:P]

Of course, saying the afterlife is racist and homophobic because there are no movies with ethnic/gay ghosts in it is silly. Wouldn't it be more like the movie/television industry is?

BEWARE!!!!!
This is not kid-friendly despite it being a cartoon.
-
There was a film released in the 1930s called "The Black Ghost". Lon Cheney Jr was in it.
Do I get a star?

Why stop at a homophobic and racist afterlife - why not an anti-semitic one, have you heard of any Jewish ghosts? One may have made it though:
When Goldstein reached 70 he decided to change his lifestyle completely so he could live longer. He dieted, he jogged, he swam, he got tanned. Within 3 months he had lost 30 pounds, his waist was reduced by 6 inches and his chest expanded by 5 inches. Sleek and dapper he decided to have the latest haircut. Stepping off the pavement outside the hairdresser's he was killed by a bus. As he lay dying he called to his Maker and said "How could you do this to me?" A voice from the heavens replied "To tell you the truth Goldstein, I didn't recognize you".

A few years ago I visited a haunted hotel and met a few ghosts there. They admitted they were behind the times in their thinking, but were trying to improve. I give them a lot of credit for that, their being dead and all.
-
Would a gay poltergeist tastefully rearrange your nicknacks instead of throwing them about the room ? [:)]
-
Tsk Tsk Stereotyping are we? Actually ghosts don't have sex and remember little about it. They do like to throw things around the room though. They have a lot of time on their hands.
-
Doesn't "stereotyping" mean using both hands on your PC keyboard?

Evie, thanks for the correction. But it's not just the film industry, have you ever heard of a black ghost haunting a castle, house, or anywhere? Or a gay ghost menacingly mincing the halls?

Aren't all Jewish ghost looking after pirate's treasure?

The Arc Angel Gabriel came to the gates of Heaven to deal with the day's new intake.
"Right, pay attention please" he said to the masses waiting outside, "You will now be sorted into those who will be going to Heaven and those who will be going to Hell. The Lord God knows you all and all you have done, so anyone trying to slip in who doesn't deserve it will end up in Purgatory anyway."
The crowd stood in anticipation.
"OK" said Gabriel "All children may pass through the gates into heaven. Thieves, muggers, murderers, rapists and fraudsters stand on the left. You will be going to Hell. Jews, stand on the right, you will be going to Heaven. Catholics, stand on the left..... Yes, the Jews were right!"

If ghosts existed, I would think they would be pure energy forms. They wouldn't exhibit any physical traits although they'd identify with what they were in life. The racism and homophobia is a problem with the media and how ghosts are represented. There is also ageism, because ghosts are rarely represented as old people. You'd expect most ghosts to look elderly if they had to look like what they were in life. The average life span in industrialized nations is around 76 years.
Of course, I don't believe in ghosts, although the furniture in my room tended to move around a lot in that hotel I stayed at, not to mention the toilet flushing all night long.

The thing is sin, destructive behaviour leads to an afterlife with the author of it, and cleanness and kindness... lead to eternity spent with the Author in Heaven, but we need not change ourselves, Jesus composed that power and does it by His presence, by trust in Him.
I think black ghosts are unpopular due to special effects matters.
-
Titanscape - what are you talking about?

Whooa, slow down. Now, what the heck did you just say?
-
blakestyger & Confidant, I'm glad you have said that, I read Titanscape's post and thought 'What??? Is it me?'
-
I meant that the selection is not racist...
-
So whose afterlife is it anyway?
The next stage of metamorphosis perhaps, maybe we are all blobs of light or dark, depending on our output.
Without gender or race.
Do you think; Jesus was a Christian?
-
Do you think; Jesus was a Christian?
Given that the Christian Church didn't start until the 1st century CE in Roman Judea, is dedicated to the worship of Jesus of Nazareth as the Son of God and as Christ always denied his divinity - almost certainly not.
-
I studied Christology, the New Testament existed in the first century, but only as wrong suggestions were made about Jesus did the disciples like, John the apostle and his disciples, like Polycarp, explain the faith. Polycarp countered an argument explaining to the gnostics that Jesus really had a material body... Later apologists explained he had the fullness of the Godhead and man and was not a mixture of the two. Against Arius, in Egypt. It was the fringe groups misunderstanding verses the bishops, taught by John, Paul and Mark... and their disciples and their disciple's disciples...
I think Jesus believed in Himself. Thomas the disciple said, "My Lord and my God."

Bren, I just have to know, and please don't be offended. Why do you come on a science forum where most of the members do not believe in Heaven, Hell, God, Jesus or the Holy Ghost, and try to convince them otherwise?

That's an incredibly sweeping statement. I think you are only qualified to speak for yourself on that matter. Most of the Scientists I know are professed Christians.
-
Even if most here did not have any faith, AlphBravo asked about Jesus' belief.
But I post because some others have faith and I might help some, and I hope that non believers come to believe.

In my ghost hunting days, we went to a haunted pub in cirencester, a legion of BLACK soldiers used to and still do, march through the cellar, they were one of the north african auxillary units stationed on Hadrians wall.

Do any photographs exist of this common occurrence?

To be fair Carolyn did say "on a science forum where most of the members..."
You may know Scientists that claim to be professed Christians but that does not mean that they are believers that practice their Christianity as many simply do not. The ones that don't practice their belief are just "token Christians." How many write down that they belong to the Church when asked and yet do not attend Church or worship on a regular basis?
Being a "token Christian" is a trait that's common in politics as well, plus it looks better than putting "atheist" on the CV!
Being a Christian is not just about saying you are one!
Perhaps the new "Ghostbusters" movie may have some black ghosts.

i dont know, but many have experienced it, and the uniforms have been identified to specific legions, next time your in cirencester go take a look, or rather a feel, its a weird, place to be !
Oh its the kings head hotel !

You're right SC, I cannot speak for anyone other than myself and obviously I don't know the religious beliefs of all of the TNS members. However, the majority of the members that I have personally interacted with do not believe in God and most of the scientists I know outside of this forum, which are not a lot, are also not believers.
After I posted and then reread my question, I intended to delete it because I didn't mean for it to sound so harsh and I also wasn't happy with the way I worded it because it implied that I am an atheist. I am not. I am a Christian and have been since I was a young child. Unfortunately, I was distracted by a phone call and forgot all about deleting it until you responded.
Both you and Titanscape have my apologies for any offense I have caused.
