Title: how will the universe end?
Post by: spook1456 on 27/04/2011 13:47:09
some say that the universe is a never ending cycle of big crunch and big bang but what dark matter is doing is that it defies gravity causing the galaxies to float apart and ultimately it might just rip every thing apapt and i mean it when i type EVERYTHING! But some people say that after the big rip ( caused by dark energy )the dark energy will rip itself apart hence causing a new universe to be born out of its predecessor.
so what do you thinl? Please post your comments below

Dark energy is not well understood at this point in time, so I don't think we could say that it would necessarily rip itself apart. I doubt such a thing could happen anyway. I've never heard of it happening with any other types of fields or energy.

Although there IS an idea I came across recently in Google news about the possibility that "dark energy" is caused by repulsive gravity from antimatter (to my knowledge, we've never been able to experiment well enough with antimatter to tell if it is attracted to or repelled from normal gravitational fields, so it remains a possibility).
