There is no such thing as "mainstream science". There is scientific theory (usually involving a lot of tedious math) that can be can be confirmed by scientific experiment. Usually, that is referred to as "science".That's about it.

There was a time when Einstein was not mainstream, and he would have been booted out of most mainstream discussions of his day.
