Title: A Question About The House Of Commons ?
Post by: neilep on 22/04/2008 20:34:51
Dear Peeps Who Know Stuff,

This is the House Of Commons !

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

I do enjoy watching PM's Questions !......what I want to know is why, when the PM has answered a question do a whole bunch of MPs stand up when it's well known who will ask the next question ?...and then again...the same ones stand again and then sit down !!...what's that all about  ?

I really want to know !!

If it leads to a multi-page-history-lesson  I might not want to know !! [:)]

It is probably because they have been asleep and suddenly realise it has gone quiet so they all jump up looking confused and then quickly sit down again so that they don't look stupid.

There are electrodes on each seat. The Speaker has buttons to activate them.

No Neil the MPs jump up to get the Speakers attention so that they can ask the PM a question or just heckle him or another
MP from another side.

It's called tradition more like a kindergarten/bear garden

The easiest way to get attention is do a prat fall, I'm surprised that none of our MPs use this ploy...especially when there are TV cameras. They would get my vote.

They jump up because they think the speaker is going to select them to speak next. It's a bit like when you put up your hand in chemistry, to answer the teachers question, when you don't know the answer because you are showing off. When the teacher points at you, you then put your hand down and look at the person behind you like the teacher was pointing at them.

They stand up, to try and catch the eye of the Speaker of the House, so they can ask a supplementary question.

oh

Are you suggesting that they debate global warming and discuss their own part in hot air production. Perhaps they should ban themselves. I'm sure they are more to blame than a bunch of rumanating cows.

I think one of those base ball catchers mits would help in this procedure.
