Title: Could there be a 'Before' the Big Bang ?
Post by: neilep on 21/11/2007 17:09:47
It's generally accepted that 'Time' was created at the moment the Big Bang was ...and therefore to think of ' before' the Big Bang is silly.

But....how do we know that 'Time ' did not exist ?.....and that there was indeed a ' before' the Big Bang !?...How can we be sure that any of the physics laws were not just floating around in some primordial-big-bang-soup and ,like the creation of life on earth,...the creation of the Big Bang happend also ?

Am I demonstrating rank naivety here ?

I believe that time and space are infinite but big bang events are popping up all the time making a multiplicity of universi which can never communicate.
No doubt the "laws" of physics vary from one to the other and we exist because here they suit us.

Almost certainly there was a "time" before the big bang and if and when we have a good theory of everything the cosmological modellers will be able to tell us about it.  there may even be some features in our universe that will give us more information about it.  Unfortunately the rearwards extrapolation down to a singularity of current models is not very helpful with this and more realistic models relating to the breakdown of this simplistic model will be needed.

....erhmmmm..I think there must be a temporal causality loop infiltrating the site !!

It seems to me if there was a big bang to begin with then there had to be something before in order to create the big bang! Something had to exist and be happening in order for the Big Bang! Does not time exist weather or not we keep track of it? As far as life as we know it.. I get that, but how could we get something from nothing??? It really rather confuses me!
