Had Lasik Surgery 1 yr ago - before surgery, no major eye issues - seems like I've ended up with almost all of the possible side effects they list in their patient informed consent form plus a number of extras - after surgery here's a list of my problems:

-20/20 vision does not mean better vision, takes much longer to focus now, visual acuity far less than before surgery, night vision problems, contrast sensitivity far less, starburst

-claim that complication rates are only 1-5 percent however I've found out that many studies find that over 50% of patients claim to have some type of problem after surgery

-constant dry eye pain

-can hardly sleep because of eye pain

-fell into a major depression after my Lasik surgery due to numerous issues

-don't blink often enough

-right eye is always strained and puffy

-no more social life, can't stand the eye pain when out at social gatherings

-missed numerous days of work due to unbearable eye pain

-large psychologist bill

-large bill for the vitamins and other supplements needed to control my dry eye symptoms, although its hard to control

-can no longer play contact sports because the corneal flap created during the operation may be disslodged giving me even worse vision

-almost incapable of functioning on any type of usefull manner at work

-constant headaches and eye strain

feeling terrible about my lasik decision,

lasik sucks

Wait a few years. Some symptoms may not go away, but you will get used to some changes. Happened to me, but I had fewer trouble than you seem to have.

I couldn't do a Lasik operation, but instead i made a Lasek operation in Uppsala (Sweden) three years ago and the first week after operation was no fun.. During the first three days I had a lot of pain and had to stay in a very dark room because my eyes were very sensitive to light, but then it gradually got better and better.

Before the operation I even had trouble seeing the largest letters without my glasses during an eye control, but now, after, it's a lot better, so i'm very happy with the result.

The only downside is that my eyes is a little dryer and my vision in dark is decreased a little.

There is always a risk of complications after a surgery and my doctor was actually really honest and told me about complications, including worst case scenario, but it felt right, and i am so happy i did.

Is it true that Lasek, while it is more painful the days after the surgery, it's more safe ?

Lasik is  a good thing for people who have to depend heavily on spectacles or contact lens.

However, there are some questions that you must ask your lasik surgeon before doing the actual operation. Not everyone is suitable for a lasik operation so your doctor need to do a full examination on your eyes and determine if you are ready for the operation, otherwise, you may have complications.

More questions you should ask your lasik surgeon cann be found at

I don't qualify, as my optometrist says the operation will have only one chance, given my poor eyesight in the one eye. Not willing to chance that yet, will keep on spending money each year or so for new UHR polycarbonate with the best coatings and photochromic coating. Size of the blanks limits the frames I can use though, one lens is basically flat ( corrects for errors in the other lens) whilst the other lens would be nearly 100g in borosilicate glass, and nearly 15mm thick. In polycarbonate total mass is 16g including frames. I joked with him that they cost more than street price of Bolivian Marching Powder, and he agreed.

I don't know if I'm allowed to post a link, but this is a good short guide to understanding Lasik: deleted link

I think the only sort of link on this matter that is acceptable is one that is one from a sourse that is completely disinterested

I did meet a person once that had very bad complications from Lasik surgery to the point that his vision was much much worse, and he had difficulties seeing.

I do enough work around the shop that I've now gotten a pair of "Safety Glasses".  I must admit that I am a little lazy about putting on goggles, but it isn't a bad idea to have some intrinsic eye protection.

This surgery is very simple and painless surgery and it has a good results. But we need to take care about eyes before and after the surgery because their will be some complications and causes,if we do not follow the correct instructions prescribed by the doctors.
