Title: Best Music Era
Post by: Titanscape on 22/03/2009 12:32:19
So which music era does it for you, whether you remember it best or love the listening pleasure, or energy, innovation...? Which is the highest, best art era. Looking at music videos?

I can't answer that because there was good & bad in all eras.

I would say the 50s & especially the 60s were the most ground-breaking for popular music though (including rock music). You only have to look at the charts from about 1963 to 1969 to see how varied and innovative the music was back then. These days all that seems to get into the charts is rap (yuk, spit), R&B (bleurgh) and the occasional bit of pop (boring).

Music vids have only been around since the late 70s and with very few exceptions the early ones were really grim.

I voted the 70's, because even though there are good and bad bits in most decades, it reminds me of being a kid when my parents would have the radio on on a saturday morning, while doing house-work, working on the car etc.

The overall answer is going to be based on nostalgia - and will probably be a good measure of the average age of votees!

Radio hadn't been invented when I was a kid (https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.freesmileys.org%2Fsmileys%2Fsmiley-sad013.gif&hash=d79cfebd7d22e3aeddb2b0e1ac63bf92) (http://www.freesmileys.org)

Easy peesy - the 60's.  The range and variety of music in the pop charts then has never since been equaled, let alone surpassed.  I'd say that 60-70+ % of pop music in the 60's qualified as art, not simply entertainment.

Nah. They formed in 1981, matey.

There's no need to look it up to check because when the beaver pronounces on music it goes without saying that it's right.  [^]

October 28th 1981 to be precise. But the first album wasn't released until late 1983.

They did record before that though. They played a track on an album produced by 1 of Lars Ulrich's friends.
