Can the problem with windows 10 anti virus be cured
« on: 22/02/2019 23:04:24 »
It has been reported that the antivirus program incorporated in the latest windows 10 update causes problems with the popular WxToImg weather satellite picture processing program.
There are various rather complex ways to shut this antivirus down but the most simple is to load another antivirus  program such as Malwarebytes which causes the built in one to shut down after a few seconds then WxToImg runs quite normally.

The Windows own-brand anti-virus has a white-list where you can tell it certain programs are trustworthy and to ignore ("exclude") them from monitoring.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4028485/windows-10-add-an-exclusion-to-windows-security

[ I'd triple-check it was trustworthy before doing that ].

The best way with that is to choose the "folder" the program is in for exclusion and any other specific drivers (e.g. perhaps direct X *.DLL 's ).that are "files" that the program calls to in other folders.

I personally don't suggest antivirus as it's slower the processes and not even that much helpful.

I used to use Malwarebytes in addition to the built in windows antivirus because various obscene games and nonsense about destructive spam used to burst thru when viewing sports streams but Windows seem to have improved their anti virus in later updates so this no longer happens.
I nevertheless keep it loaded in reserve.

It's slow, but it does help.

It's still better to use an antivirus in Windows! Of course, if you are using Linux, then you can relax!

I don't trust antivirus at all, but if the antivirus is built-in, then nothing can be done

Yes this can be cured.  Format your disk and reinstall an older copy of windows 10.  Takes me about 2 hours to complete now with a digital hard drive.
