Our sensory systems, such as our eyes and ears, input data into the brain. This data after entering the brain, heads toward the core region of the brain; thalamus. The thalamus is the most wired part of the brain. The data is processed by the thalamus, and then goes onward to other parts of the brain, along with other parallel thalamus outputs, such as down the brain stem. The thalamus has immense input and output wiring integrations. 

The human brain has two centers of consciousness; ego and inner self. The ego is more cerebral while the inner self is more connected to the thalamus. Hearing voices comes from the inner self using the output wiring from the thalamus to trigger the same pathways that sensory input data also uses, but without the requirement of sensory input. The thalamus can use the second half of the sensory circuits by themselves. This happens in dreams.

At times, direct sensory input into and out of the thalamus can become overlapped by secondary thalamus output to the same final sensory cortices. A good example is falling in love. The beloved takes on an imaginary overlay; most beautiful, that makes them seem larger than life to the one who feels the love. This may not be seen by others, since it is a projection overlay that is inside the person who is in love.

Love is not blind but rather it can have thalamus reinforcement, via the firmware of love. This integrating firmware will allow all our senses to achieve a coordinate sensory overlay so the special affects of the goddess of love; firmware, becomes better than real. If the overlay was to stop, and only sensory reality was restored, some people separate to find/induce another thalamus induction overlay. But the gods; thalamus and firmware, are fickle so it may never be the same. However, if one is conscious of these affects, in part of whole, one can map out parts of brain's thalamus based operating system.

No, you don't have proof.  I agree that if you are hearing voices in your head that you should consult a doctor.

In many religions of the Indigenous peoples of America; Indians, the dreams and visions of the chief are considered to come from helpful spirits. These are used to help the tribe and some aspects will become part of their mythology. This too is generated by the brain. The eureka moment for the chief is seen as help outside himself, since it is served to him on a platter.  It expectation is easier for the ego deal with, since such things, when projected outside, are where one, including science, expects to see or hear it. It is not pathology, but is a natural expression of the brain that is less in vogue than it once was.

What we refer to as Human Consciousness; I think therefore I am, is actually created by two centers of consciousness; ego and inner self. Like having two eyes or two ears a stereo affect is created that can create 3-D sight and sound. The team; two centers, can become more than the sum of its parts; 3-D.   

Consciousness awareness is an awareness of oneself; second POV in terms of the overall 3-D affect. If I give you some food to eat, whether you  like it or not is not from the ego, unless one is totally mechanical in terms of allowed tastes. For most people, who are honest with themselves is a natural reaction processed apart from the ego. You will be aware of your natural or innate preferences, thereby differentiating the observer from the observed. 

If voice spirits are talking to you, one is aware of this secondary center, but filtered through firmware within the brain operating system. These firmware are slower than the inner self and the ego can better keep up. Since voices are connected to sound and language these would more than likely be connected to middle level firmware; archetypes of relationship. Relationship in this sense is how things relate to each other. This connection does not have to logical or rational, but can be things like the red suit and white beard of Santa Claus. Or it can be like where quantum theory is defined by probability. These things go together by definition, even if this is not fully rational. The spirits of talanum1; neural output, tell things in terms of how he should relate.

In psychosis, entire scenarios and environmental ambiance can be created as a projection for the ego. The entire world can seem transformed to something else often sinister but sometimes euphoric. These projection affects shows the tip of the iceberg in terms of brain projection capacity. For most, this psychotic wild horse is hard to ride. But for the scientists who can keep their cool and remember this is from the other center, it can provide very unique data. talanum1 appears to have developed a rapport needed to observed and record.
