Title: Why can we be desensitiosed to allergens but not medications?

Dan asked the Naked Scientists:
   Hey guys,

After listening to the shows, a few odd ideas have come to mind.

Why is it that with allergies, such as peanuts, you can get desensitized with small and increasing doses but if you are given medication, they teach you to not give that medication again or else the patient's reaction will be worse than the first time.

Thanks for the great show and content. You guys blow my mind all the time.
