Is China really a communist country?

In the urban areas, people seem to be even more materialistic than Americans and Brits. Weddings without a massive dowry are becoming more and more unheard of, and the greatest way to earn respect is by the money you make (or inherit). A huge problem is monk impersonators. They wander and loiter on the streets and when they detect a non-Asian, they ask them for money in return for some good fortune token. They take advantage of foreigners' ignorance that Buddhist and Taoist monks live in temples and don't leave.

:Like the UK, the country is ruled by a bunch of corrupt scum. Unlike the UK they call themselves communists. Not much difference in practice except that the Chinese scum imprison anyone who complains, and the British scum just ignore them.

Our scum only recently granted themselves the power to imprison people for disagreeing with them.
I'm sure it won't be long...

Cuba, Albania, arguably France immediately after the revolution, certainly China under Mao, Vietnam....
The problem is that societies evolve (apart from the USA). The happiest capitalist societies have state ownership of some basic industries, some underpinning state benefits for the unfit and unemployed, and a free health service. Private enterprise is inevitable wherever cash transactions are possible. So you won't find "laboratory pure" capitalism or communism anywhere.
What makes politics stink is when the state privatises a public asset like the railway system then subsidises it with taxpayers' money, as in the UK, or unreasonably seizes legitimate private assets or discourages innovation in order to fit some central plan, as in the worst excesses of the Soviet Union.
