Title: Why vascular stents don't last?
Post by: scientizscht on 20/09/2018 19:55:10
When you put a stent in blocked artery, theoretically it would never reblock as the metallic cylinder will always keep the point open.

However there is a kind of failure as people still die from blocked arteries.

Why?

Blockages can occur in other parts of the artery.
Tissue can grow over and inside the stent, narrowing it again.
The stent can be a source of irritation/inflammation, and a site triggering formation of blood clots.
