Title: Will global warming be the cause of the next world war?

Judging by the seriousness with which most countries are tackiling this issue, it is very important.
It seems probable that if there are countries in the world that do not wish to change their habits then they pose a threat to other countries.

There are countries that do not wish to change their ways, such as China who blatantly sabataged the copenhagen talks.

If it gets to the point where it must be done to save the world, then super-hero countries like USA would probably have to invade so as to restructure the energy usage.

I know this might seem far fetched, but this is an issue that could happen easily if left untreated.

Your thoughts??

Right now there is probably a greater risk of unrest within nations such as the UK & USA due to the ever widening gap between the rich and the poor. In the UK the gap is now at its widest for 40 years. We seem to be regressing to Dickensian times. Sooner or later things could flare up. The USA has an even wider rich/poor gap than the UK.

All around the world there are countries that have a much larger population than their agriculture can support, as the world warms up the situation will only get worse.
A way is needed to reduce the populations of these countries, one way would be for the prosperous countries with good agriculture to accept a massive influx of people from these countries and share their goodies with them.
Somehow I don't think it will happen more likely they will increase their defenses to keep them out so that they die off.

look at it this way.
Russia is exporting (exploiting) methane (nature gas) and diverse oil reserves to Europe. And a lot of countries will need that energy, England f.ex.

America is exploiting Canada as well as a lot of other sources. We're all mixed up in a net of energy opening a lot of countries to blackmail.

And as the sources we use will increase the pollution and accelerate global warming that in its turn will decrease the possible areas where we can grow food etc we will have a situation where a whole lot of of more people are without food and energy and human rights more and more will become a secondary question.

And when natural assets (oil f.ex) grow scarce tensions will grow. And starving  people won't care for boarders, and if you to that add 'blackmail' or as some call it 'realpolitik'.

Explosive stuff.

Scary stuff!

Its only a matter of time before the third world war starts, and I'll bet 100 thousand dollars it happens before this century is out!

I don't think world war is possible. Because of nuclear weapons China, Russia or USA can not be attacked and can not be part of big global war.

Considering recent history I think most likely aggressor would be USA and most likely target China since USA owes so much money to them. There would be two ways to attack. Either nuke China or send navy. If China is nuked they are sure to nuke back. And if navy is attacking them China is sure to nuke the navy out of sea. I would think even USA can not be that stupid.

My friend, you're so sadly wrong there. We have already used nuclear weapons, and therefore made them, possibly so, more acceptable out of a global military perspective, as we now think ourselves 'understanding' their consequences so much better :)

And the war won't be big, it will be as a lot of small bush fires, coming together. A little like we already have, but growing as people start to starve for real and our 'natural disasters' becomes 'bigger'. The nuclear weapons will be used when a nuclear country either start to doubt its own capability to survive without them or as an aggressor sees it as a clear shot to 'victory'. China is the largest army in the world and if someone should worry it's the Russians, not America. As for who's owing who :)

"Your best friend is the guy owing you."

But Chinas economy is artificially boosted, investing and lending out more money than they can afford for the moment, but who want to rock the boat :) A lot of western countries are getting real good help from that economy now.

We'll see about that next year I think.
