Title: vibrating metal

does anyone know of a metal compound that vibrates in response to heat? i was planning a project and needed such a thing.    thnx

no...but that's a pretty good idea...never thought of it before..

I assume you mean that as they get warmer, for a short period of time they will vibrate (and thus emit sound, whether audible or not) until they have stabilised at the new temperature?  I cannot see it happening in perpetuity, since work can only be done from a difference in temperature (and vibration is work done).

I thought almost everything vibrates in response to heat? But you mean at a specific frequency so you could see the vibration or make some noise?? I n this case, I would've thought the set-up is as important as the substance.

And what do you mean metal compound? Pure metal, or alloy, or organometallics?
