Title: Could you answer my questions about piercings, ears in particular?
Post by: Karen W. on 10/12/2009 05:58:12
Well when I was fourteen years old I started my period, graduated from the 8th grade, and had my ears pierced as a graduation gift!

So for the last 35 years, my ears have been pierced and have held earrings of one type or the other.

My dilemma is, that I can wear gold, white gold, silver, and sometimes surgical steel earrings, post or wire, but as soon as I put a different jewelry metal into the ear piercings, they become sore as if they are infected.

Its like when you first have them done. If you do not turn them, and clean them, they get infected. Now why do they do that, when the hole is long since been healed!

If I do not substitute silver or gold right away, my ears become mucho sore, and hurt like crazy! I clean them and they form this hard core that comes out like one would see in a zit or blemish when squeezed?

So what is the deal with that?

That hard core is the remains of white blood cells, so their presence indicates that your body is fighting some "invasion".
Your body will tolerate silver, gold, white gold etc, but it won't tolerate nickel or copper or the like.

Some of my favorite earrings are El cheepo's, yet others are more pricey! Still cheep but for me under $30.00 USA, but they are painful...

Also if I wear a pair of Dangle-lies like these for a day or two.. they are heavier..Good metal, but the weight seems to add to the displeasure?

It clears up.. goes away but if I put a second metal.. thats not silver gold or surgical steel it immediately is sore the next day again...
I just don't know weather its an allergy or what.. My mom was allergic to yellow gold.. it made a terrible red ringy rash around her finger on her neck or ears, where ever the gold touched.. but she also could wear white gold silver.. but not tins or surgical steel...

Do The inside of the peircings ever really heal on the inside.. I have had the holes grow semi closed before when not wearing my earrings and had to re-pierce them with the earring post when reinserting them into the ear... no fun.. so I just mostly keep small silver diamond stud posts in place.
