Yes.
Because no vaccine is perfectly effective.
However, broadly speaking the vaccinated people are not dying; most of them are not even getting ill.

Is there a grown-up who usually helps you with this sort of thing?

In other words no one died of the polio vaccine today because polio is all but eliminated because the polio vaccines work and vaccinated people do not get polio.

What are your thoughts on Eric Clapton not playing in the UK ever again if  Johnson says that vaccines are mandated?

I think he is a great guitar player.
He is not a health expert - so I don't care what his opinion is.

vaccinated people do not get polio.

Well... yes and no
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polio_vaccine#Vaccine-induced_polio

But the point is that, on average, the vaccine eliminates the disease.
That's the way it goes. We are working on it for covid and, in spite of an incompetent government, our health service is doing a great job.

I understand that his expertise lies in a different area of pharmacology.

Nobody is going to mandate vaccines, but Darwin will ensure that terminal stupidity is not passed on through many generations.

Also worth pointing out that a shop or a pub is private premises (in the case of a pub it is the publican's home) and the owner is entitled to impose reasonable conditions of entry. Not being visually filthy is a common one, so proof of not being infectious might be another. In another thread I have pointed out the absolute authority of the captain of any form of public transport in this matter.  So COVID passports will probably become the norm de facto.

I once bought some guitar strings from Eric Clapton. I still use Ernie Ball Super Slinky, but I wouldn't worry too much if he didn't play live in the UK again, as long as my audience is vaccinated.

This is a fair point. We are told that vaccines need to be 70 percent effective at preventing infection to stop a virus yet the corona ones do not offer that level of protection.

That said  the vaccine is stopping serious illness, sort of on a par with the flu vaccine.

Have you misunderstood something like this?
"a coronavirus vaccine’s effectiveness may have to be higher than 70% or even 80% before Americans can safely stop relying social distancing."

If we actually quarantined everybody for a month the vaccine could be zero percent effective, and it would still "work".

Do you really not understand that it isn't an "either / or" thing and that we need to use lots of measures to control the virus?

Why do we bother to fit brakes on cars, if people still die in road accidents?

The vaccine works by improving our immune system, not by making us immortal.
