Surely every adult must have had two jabs by now, and I see they are looking to vaccinate teenagers that will help stop the spread in schools. But who are those unfortunately dying? I see the last few days have seen 124, 122, 143 and 166 deaths from Covid so is it are older people dying even though they should have had two jabs. I appreciate the vaccine is not 100% effective, even so it seems to be a lot of deaths.

A death rate of about 100 a day is bad; but in January it was 1200 a day.
That was largely because "Boris saved Christmas".

A better question is why is the infection rate so high, far higher than Europe.

Because the British public is more stupid than average, hence more infections, and more stoical than average, hence less likely to present early for treatment.

At least the retail trade has  prepared for the flu epidemic. Rumors of empty shelves led to panic buying, so all the summer and autumn stock has been cleared without the need for the usual price reductions and essential Chinese plastic Xmas tat is now on sale alongside single-use Halloween, Thanksgiving, Diwali, and Guy Fawkes regalia and traditional varieties of alcoholic beverage that were invented several weeks ago.   By the end of October there will be rumors of a world shortage of chocolate, prompting a rush for Easter fetishes.

The question on everyone's mind, of course, is which ludicrous piece of overpriced junk will we be told is every child's must-have status symbol with which to welcome the Baby Jesus. My bet is on a self-fornicating armadillo (with lifelike hair) that eats AA batteries faster than you can buy them (because there is a shortage due to Brexit/Covid/Russia/Scottish independence/climate change).

Be assured that HM Government is doing all it can to stand by and watch the economy crash. Washing your hands is what it is all about.

As has been said, most deaths are among unvaccinated, of which there are significant numbers, some in vulnerable groups due to personal choice. But there are other factors affecting why we are seeing high infection rates compared to Europe.
England was first in Europe to fully end most Covid restrictions back in July. Europe was more cautious Denmark late August, Norway only in recent weeks, and many have retained a lot of measures, eg limits on large gatherings, Covid passports to enter bars and restaurants, social distancing and mandatory mask-wearing indoors.
Germany and Italy still have restrictions on large crowds eg football matches and a number of countries, eg Spain, have social distancing in schools and masks from the age of six.
Early on UK was leading the way on vaccination, now Spain, Portugal and France have administered more doses per head of population. Main reason for this is that many have started vaccinating under 16s, which is only just starting in the UK.
The epidemic here is largely being fuelled by high rates in teenagers, in particular  those under 16 who have not been vaccinated over the summer, unlike many of this age group in Europe.
Currently the highest infection rates are in the <19 group, 2x higher than the 35-49 group, almost 3x higher than 20-34, and 7x higher than 50+. What is interesting is that the 20-34 group has dropped to a third of its infection levels since end July and the <19 group is starting to show a downturn - are we seeing the beginning of a trend?
