Title: Can you tell me about total hip replacement and the different Procedures?

I have to have a total hip replacement as non surgical

measures have neglected to help.I have very severe

arthritis and necrosis in my hips and my weight is not helping.

The Dr tells me to research different methods of replacement

so I can choose.. except he feels most are equally evasive

invasive (Whoops..Thanks Rosy)

Is this true.. ?

I am wanting to get your explanations on the procedures here

without being directed off from this site as my energy and computer

are terribly slow so I can't at this time surf the net without

extreme frustration.. so if you all would be so kind to confine your

information to here on this thread and by your own explanations or cut

and paste and credit the author I would be ever so grateful..



I need to know what to expect! He said I will be down 3 to 6 months

depending on how much weight I can get off before the surgery and how

well I heal... Looks like nursing home for me for a while as I have no

help here. I am still looking for a nurse and seeing if my Medicare will

cover in home nurse for a few months!




So what is the scoop friends?

I don't know anything about hip replacement... but do you mean "invasive" rather than "evasive"?

He tells me he can do any any procedure available but for me to look at the procedures and Tell him which I like and then we can talk about my choices and pros and cons..etc..

He said he wants me to research to see all the different procedures and compare them.. then we will talk about the procedure we will use...

I am curious after the procedure and during healing will I ever be able to squat or bend completely over at the hips again or is that a movement which will be gone due to lack of flexability to the new joint?

Also, what will be involved in turning over to get from a lying position to and sitting upright position when getting out of bed? Right Now it is excruciating to do the mere movement of the right leg to dangle over the edge of the bed It is horrendously painful and causes my hip to pop out of joint! So, I have had to adapt Tne ways of rolling over to prevent the dislocation of the hip upon rising from a lying postion.It is difficult and embarrassing...
