New Theories / Re: Sexual orientation economics

Surely it would be better, if more men got into bed with men.  Then wouldn't they be more interested in kissing and loving each other, rather than starting wars?

Physiology & Medicine / Re: Pheromones or reinforcement?

I just read an article on human pheromones being a myth which I disagree with, under the best circumstances where the mother and father are both present and provide a positive influence on the childs life we learn to associate male and female scents with whatever (hopefully healthy) early intimate interactions we had with our parents and siblings carrying into adulthood
This is a good question that you raise.  What human pheromones does a baby experience at birth?  In the distant past,  I mean like in the Stone Age,  births would take place in a cave. Or some other dwelling with natural "earthy" smells .  In this contained, intimate, environment, both males and females were hanging around.  In close proximity to the baby.
The baby thus acquired immediate contact with natural male and female smells.  And this "primed" the baby, instinctively, for a differentiation between "male" and "female".
But in modern times, it's different.  Most births take place in big hospitals.  In these the smell is artificial disinfectant, which imparts a pungent and disturbing feeling.
Anyone who's been to a hospital notices the distinctive and unnatural smell.  Could this smell affect babies who are born in hospitals?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Re: Does a microwave use the same amount of energy for all food?

Would it not be more correct to refer to these devices as "microwave cookers" or some similar name calling them just a "microwave" could refer to a Wi Fi dongle or a massive radar installation.

As a fellow pedant, I enthusiastically agree with your requirement for semantic exactitude.
I'm distressed when people refer to their "mobile", when they should more correctly say "mobile phone".

New Theories / Re: Re: Does a photon have inertia?

Why had this post been moved to new theories?

How can I complain about this?

If a photon moves at the speed of light,  then why hasn't it got a huge mass?

New Theories / Re: Re: Where does the kinetic energy go?
« on: 06/03/2017 19:33:18 »
Is there really such a thing as  true "kinetic energy"?  I mean according to "Relativity Theory", nothing really moves.  It just depends on how you look at it.
For example, when you look at the Sun from a place on Earth, the Sun looks like it's moving across the sky.  That movement must give it kinetic energy.

But when you look at the Solar System from outside, the Sun stays still, and  it's the Earth that's moving, so the Earth must have kinetic energy.

It seems therefore that both the Sun and the Earth have kinetic energy.   But how do  you measure it?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Re: Why can't light penetrate the event horizon?
« on: 06/03/2017 18:56:03 »
If photons always, universally, go at the "speed of light",  why should they be influenced by an intense gravitational field. such as provided by a Black Hole?
The photons haven't got any mass.  So how can they be affected by "gravity", which  is a product of mass.

I mean, if photons haven't got any mass,  why shouldn't they escape from the Black Hole freely?

Physiology & Medicine / Re: Is obesity a sin of gluttony or sloth?
« on: 06/03/2017 18:35:53 »
Surely the dog and cat only got fat, because they were given food by humans.
I can't think of anyone else, apart from humans, that gives food, gratuitously, to another species.

The Environment / Re: Are climate skeptics right that there is no link between CO2 levels and temperature?
« on: 06/03/2017 18:13:42 »
I think, that so many scientists have committed themselves to the idea that global warming is caused by humans, that they can never retreat, without a disastrous loss of face.

Including canned tomatoes I probably make about 0.5Kg a day .
Do you really eat canned tomatoes every day? I'm only asking this for the sake of truth!

Do you really eat a pound of vegetables a day? Personally I avoid all vegetables, except potatoes and carrots and peas. And fresh tomatoes, and lettuce.
But I don't really like eating them, it's just from a kind of sense of dietary duty.

What  I like is meat.  In the form of pork sausages, and corned-beef, and Spam. All the rest is propaganda.

Doesn't it seem amazing, that a mere electrical spark can transmit information all over the planet?

Just wondering.

I used to wonder about that too.  Why should it be called "consumption".  That seems very frightening, Like aliens are eating your lungs. I suppose it's just a medical term.

A close friend of mine has suggested that this whole "Global Warming" debate is a deliberate attempt to divert public attention from mass third-world immigration into western countries.

Is this credible, do you think?

Life is better than being dead.  Otherwise, why do we want to stay alive, instead of dying.

During the history of Science, haven't most famous scientists been quite thin?  Have there been any really fat ones?

I think your post is very valuable. It shows that modern physics has come to a crisis.
