Did I mention that Cherie Blair, the wife of our LABOUR government leader who allegedly cares about poor people, relieved a children's cancer charity of 100,000 pounds in speaking fees recently to pay for the 3.6 million pound house that she and Tony have bought ?

Geez, you pommies will whine about anything ! The commercial reality is that they didn't have to get her to talk and I'm sure that they knew the fee prior to her engagement. While I'm not aware of the circumstances, I'm sure all the people listening to her paid a hefty fee for the privilege. I think that your scorn should be aimed at the charity, not Cherie Blair. Most charities typically take more than 10% of donations for administration fees and this would just be part of that cost.
Also, unless you know her personally Rich, those are some harsh words.

Why, she's just a public servant's wife and a commercial lawyer. What has she done to affect the lifestyle of any of you guys? Her husband, on the other hand..
I'm fair dinkum here. I'm interested to know why Mrs Blair is the object of derision from so many pommies. It doesn't seem to be an issue with other prime minister / president wives (ie Mrs Howard or Mrs Bush) even though their husbands may not be that popular with the press or vocal minority.

I recall when she came to Australia, she generated a fair few million for the charity, a lot more than her fee. It was a win win for all concerned, except the suckers that forked out huge amounts to listen to her speak. It was tax deductible for them and Mrs Blair had to pay  Australian tax on her fee, so everybody won, even the tax free charity.
So, why don't you like her? It's just a beat up by the press, who seem to have too much influence on you guy's opinions.
